Spring Birds Embroidery Patterns

I've got another spring-themed embroidery pattern to share over on my Patreon this week: folk-inspired birds!

This is actually a little set of patterns. I had so much fun designing the spring birds pattern that I couldn't resist adding some extras.

There are a couple of simpler versions of the embroidery design - smaller and much quicker to stitch, perfect for a quick crafty fix or sewing to give as a gift.

I've also included templates you can use to make little felt birds to applique in the centre of a small embroidery hoop, or anywhere else you feel just really needs a cute felt bird.

Click here to find the spring bird embroidery patterns, and to sign up to my Patreon.

Or click here to get a preview of the many projects in my Patreon pattern library!

Subscribers get full access to a growing library of PDF patterns and tutorials, and emails whenever new projects are added. You can unsubscribe at any time.

You'll also find printable PDF sewing patterns over in my shop along with lots of vintage goodness:

Felt Animal & Bird Brooch Craft Kits for Hawthorn Handmade

I've got some very exciting news to share today - I've designed some craft kits!

Hawthorn Handmade sell absolutely gorgeous beginner-friendly craft kits, and I am beyond thrilled to have been asked to work with them on some felt-y goodness.

I loved working on these and am SO PLEASED with how they turned out. I hope you guys will be just as excited about them as I am.

You can find the whole range of brooch kits here (they ship worldwide, hurrah!), but today I thought I'd show you half the collection: cute felt brooches featuring British wildlife.

There's a hare...

... a deer...

... a wren...

... a hedgehog...

... a fox...

... and a tawny owl!

How nice are the photos they've taken of the finished brooches??? Oh my goodness.

I'd love to know which one's your favourite (mine changes all the time!), and to see some photos if you buy and sew some of the kits xxx

Sew a Felt Bird Mask for Halloween

I've started a Patreon page!

Patreon is a bit like a blog, but you can set different membership levels and offer subscriber-only content to people who are interested in your work. My plan for my page is to gradually build up a pattern library, turning all the crafty projects on my blog into easy-to-print PDF files with hi-res templates / easily printable patterns.

Subscribers will get access to all the PDFs I've added to the library so far, and be notified by email when I add new ones.

It's going to take me a good while to work through my whole archive, but I'll also be adding PDF versions of all the new patterns/templates I share here on my blog over the coming months.

I'll also be posting some of my old newsletter projects exclusively for my Patreon subscribers... starting with a whole bunch of fun felt masks to sew for Halloween :)

First up: a tutorial for sewing a felt bird mask!

This was the first felt mask I made back in the early days of my online shop - look how young and fresh-faced I look in that photo!!! How time flies when you're busy sewing stuff from felt!

Felt Swan Mask: Sewing Tutorial

UPDATE: my felt swan mask tutorial (originally shared with my newsletter subscribers) is now available as part of my Patreon pattern library.

For a small monthly fee you can get access to my growing library of PDF patterns and tutorials, with an email whenever I add a new project. You can cancel any time.

The tutorial includes templates and step by step instructions for sewing the mask... which I'd normally say would be great for wearing to costume parties and festivals but we can't really go to those at the moment, can we?

Dressing up can bring a lot of fun to lockdown life, though, I think: why not wear a swan mask on your next Zoom call? or disguise yourself as a swan to do the washing up? Everything's got to be more fun when you're a swan, right?!

You could also make this mask in grey felt...

... and there's loads of possibilities if you want to make a pretty swan princess mask. You could add sequins or those little sew-on gems, stitch a bit of embroidery, or even add a little crown to the top of the mask!

Felt Chicken & Egg Easter Ornaments Tutorial

Make some cute felt chicken and egg ornaments this spring with this easy sewing tutorial, now available on my Patreon as part of a growing library of crafty PDF patterns and tutorials.

Felt ornaments aren’t just for Christmas!

Decorate a Spring or Easter display with these cute felt chicken and egg decorations – they’d look fab hung from doorknobs, or from a cluster of budding twigs in a vase. I think they'd also make lovely gifts.

I used three pastel colours to make my ornaments (pastels for spring is such a classic look!) but you could go bolder or choose more realistic chicken and egg shades. A whole garland of chickens in different colours (maybe a rainbow??) would look awesome.

You could also use the templates to sew felt chicken brooches (in my opinion you really can’t have too many fun felt chickens).

A Wonderful Vintage Cross Stitch Booklet

Talking of my recent Instagram sales, last weekend I sold an utterly wonderful vintage cross stitch pattern booklet.

It got snapped up super quickly but it was so lovely I feel like it needs to be immortalised here on my blog so you can a) "ooooh" over its gorgeousness and b) know to buy it for yourself IMMEDIATELY if you ever come across a copy!!!

"Points de Croix Scandinaves" was published by the thread company DMC and OH MY GOSH IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL. It's got some lovely Christmas and Easter designs, some nice borders and useful alphabets, and pages of fruit and toys plus some charming ships and buildings... but it's the wildlife pages that just slay me.

Those mushrooms alone!! Just magnificent.

I also adore these birds and butterflies...

... and these lovely wildflowers (can you spot the cricket?)

I'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite design, but I have a lot of love in my heart for the floral wreath with the little bee. So delightful!

Which one's your fave?

Brilliant Books, Crafty Goodness, & Vintage Loveliness

I've started having regular sales over on Instagram, selling awesome craft supplies, books, and other lovely bits and pieces.

New items are listed every Sunday at lauralupinsells. If you've got an Instagram account, comment on the items you'd like and I'll get back to you asap to sort out payment. Don't have an Instagram account but seen something you fancy? Just send me a message via my contact form.

I always charge exact postage for these sales to help make them a bargain. In the UK we can send a shoebox size parcel weighing up to 2kg for just £3 (hurrah!). I'm always happy to look up international postage costs, too, just ask!

Here are some of the items I've added this month which are still available to purchase...
