Felt Crown Ornament Tutorial for the Coronation of King Charles III (& Coronation Embroidery Patterns!)

Sew a sparkly felt crown ornament to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III!

I've had so much fun sewing these little crowns, and I hope you guys will too. They'd be fun to sew over the Coronation weekend, or for your tree this Christmas as a memento of 2023.

The design is based on St Edward's Crown - part of the British Crown Jewels, and the crown which will be used at the exact moment of the King's coronation during the ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

The printable PDF tutorial includes the templates and step-by-step instructions with lots of photos and helpful hints and tips.

It's now available as an instant download in my Etsy shop, and I've also added it to my Patreon pattern library.

If you don't want to sew your own crown but would love one as a keepsake you're in luck, as I'm selling the handmade ornaments too!

As well as the felt crowns tutorial I've shared some Coronation-themed embroidery patterns over on Patreon, which would also make great colouring pages (perfect for making some DIY decorations!).

There's a Coronation Crown Embroidery Pattern - the full design with the lettering "The Coronation of King Charles III, 6th May 2023", designed to fit in a 7 inch embroidery hoop, and the crown on its own if you'd like to just stitch that or add your own custom lettering.

I've also included a couple of pages with repeats of the crown design so you can easily print out lots of crowns for some group colouring-in sessions or to make a paper crown garland.

There's also a Cute Coronation Embroidery Pattern with a sweet little lion and unicorn. I've included the little union flag heart as a separate pattern, and repeated lots of times on the final page so you can easily print and make some DIY bunting. The heart would look fab stitched on felt to make a little ornament - just add the date of the Coronation on the back to turn it into a memento of the day.

Felt Insect Brooch Craft Kits for Hawthorn Handmade

Some lovely news - I've designed some more felt craft kits for Hawthorn Handmade!

Last year they launched wildlife brooch sewing kits and flower brooch sewing kits, then this year they've added dog brooch kits to the range... and now insect brooches, too!

There's a Bumblebee...

... a Dragonfly...

... and a Butterfly, all perched on pretty felt flowers!

I really enjoyed designing these and I am delighted with how they turned out. I've been a bit slow blogging about them so I'm thrilled to say I've already seen photos of people's finished brooches popping up online and it is an absolute JOY to see them.

If you make some, do let me know :)

Felt Dog Brooch Craft Kits for Hawthorn Handmade

I am DELIGHTED to be able to tell you that I've designed some more felt craft kits for Hawthorn Handmade!

Last year they launched wildlife brooch sewing kits and flower brooch sewing kits, all designed by me, and now we've added dog brooches to the range.

There's a Springer Spaniel...

... a Golden Retriever...

... and a Dachshund in a little cosy coat!

It was a very fun challenge capturing the character of each of these three breeds, and I'm really pleased with the end result. I love the thought of dog lovers around the world will have hours of crafty fun stitching these little guys!

Felt Flower Brooch Craft Kits for Hawthorn Handmade

In case you missed my exciting news last week: I've designed some felt sewing kits for Hawthorn Handmade, who sell the loveliest beginner-friendly craft kits.

I'm so delighted to have been asked to work on these, and super happy with how they've turned out.

Last week I shared lots of photos of the collection of wildlife brooches (a hare, a deer, a wren, a hedgehog, a fox, and a tawny owl), and today I'm going to show you some snaps of the second collection: flower brooches!

Each of the embroidered floral brooches is named after a famous woman gardener or botanist, isn't that great? You can find the whole range of brooch kits here (with worldwide shipping, hurrah!) and find out about the women each flower brooch is named after, too.

I love the choice of names, and I loooove the photos Hawthorn Handmade have taken of the finished brooches.

There's Marianne...

... Gertrude...

... Beatrix...

... Penelope...

... Margery...

... and Vita!

Which one's your fave? I absolutely cannot decide on mine.

A New Year, and Lots of Lovely New (Old) Stuff!

Hello friends! Happy New Year!

I have loads of crafty things planned for 2021, including lots of free projects for my blog and newsletter, I am positively itching to get started. I gained so much joy and solace from my creative projects in 2020 and am hoping for more of the same this year.

Before I launch into my mega crafty To Do list, I'm easing myself into January with some simple "put my feet up on the sofa and listen to an audiobook while I do this" tasks... including getting lots of lovely vintage bits and bobs added to my shops.

Click here to browse everything on my website or over in my Etsy shop.

P.S. My shops are all set up with UK postage only at the moment but I'm always happy to quote for international shipping. UK postage is charged at a flat rate - currently £4 per parcel (no matter how much you buy!), but this will be going up soon as unfortunatrly Royal Mail have just put their prices up.

P.P.S. In case you've ever wondered, buying directly from my shop or via my Instagram sale page is the way that earns me the most money because Etsy don't take their cut of the sale fee, but I know Etsy is very convenient! It's definitely the easiest way to buy my printable PDF patterns as they offer instant downloads).
