How I Blog

Over on Ei! Kumpel today you'll find an interview with me, all about blogging. This is part of a series of interviews Margarida has been doing with bloggers about how they blog, what inspires them and what challenges they've faced.

It's always nice to be asked to be interviewed, but it was especially great to do this interview as it made me stop and think about my blog - how and why I do it - in a way I've not really taken the time to do before. You know, despite blogging most days for the past however many years!

 http://www.eikumpel.com/blog/2014/6/4/how-i-blog-bugs-and-fishes-como-blogo-bugs-and-fishes.html

Here's an extract...

"What inspires you to blog?

My blog is my portfolio, showcasing my designs and my tutorials. It’s a noticeboard and newsletter for my business. It’s my diary, my project record, my travel journal. It’s a space for me to write about what interests me, and flex my (slightly neglected) English graduate writing muscles. It’s a space where I can support people and projects I admire, recommend things I’ve bought, share things I’ve discovered. And it’s a space where I can experiment, try new things and write and make anything I want.

Blogging is so intertwined with my working and creative life these days, I’m not so much inspired to blog as I am unsure what I’d do if I had to stop."

You can find all the interviews in the series HERE. That's my afternoon tea-break reading sorted! :)

Lovely Links

Ah, it sucks to be working on projects I can't share with you guys! There is honestly a limit to the amount of times I can post pics of some threads or scraps left over from secret projects, isn't there? :)

So, I've got some nice links to share with you today instead.

I'm delighted to have my felt blackbirds tutorial featured in the new issue of UK Handmade.

http://ukhandmade.co.uk/magazine

UK Handmade is a great, quarterly online magazine "committed to showcasing and promoting the best creative talent the UK has to offer." Click here to read the current issue and check out the back issues too!

I was also very flattered to be interviewed recently by the lovely Leanne of Knit me a cake - you can read my interview here

I'm being very tempted by this lovely looking book: Liberty: British Colour Pattern.

http://www.liberty.co.uk/fcp/product/Liberty//Liberty:-British-Colour-Pattern/97913

I am totally supposed to be saving money at the moment and not treating myself to things but Amazon and The Works both have it available for a bargain price and it is such a very long time until my birthday rolls round (I was a summer baby and it is really nowhere near summer).

Other recent additions to my "oh I suppose I can wait for my birthday if I absolutely must" wishlist are the Bright Bazaar book...

... and Decorate with Flowers, both of which look like they're going to be pretty darn gorgeous.

Finally, I've totally failed to get round to sorting out a new Valentine's Day -themed tutorial to share this year (2014 is moving too fast!), but you can find a round-up of some of my old Valentine-themed and heart-covered projects here.

Interview in Popular Crafts

The postie brought me lovely post this morning - a copy of the latest issue of Popular Crafts magazine...

It's the Christmas issue, jam-packed with 37 festive crafting projects and oh look - there's an interview with me on page 63 :)

As I mentioned last week it's always exciting seeing things I've made in real, tangible, available-in-newsagents magazines. I love the internet (of course) and I'm always super-delighted with any features I've had in blogs online, etc, but there's always something extra thrilling about having something to put on a shelf and to take home to show your mum.

(It's always dead weird opening a magazine and seeing my own face looking back at me, though!)

Cloth Magazine - interview and tutorial

Have you heard of Cloth Magazine?

It's a lovely little UK sewing magazine, published quarterly. The autumn issue has just been published and it includes an interview with me about my business...

... plus a felt project designed by me: a felt flower headband in yummy autumnal tones. You can see the tutorial & download pattern pieces HERE.

You might recognise those colours from the scraps I blogged about a couple of months ago.

Cloth is available from their website or from independent stockists throughout the UK.

UPDATE: This design is now available as a sewing pattern in my shop! Visit my shop to see all my printable PDF patterns

Q & A

There's an interview with me over on the DaWanda blog today - all about my creative process and running my DaWanda shop. You can read the interview here.

I often get emails from people asking questions about felt crafting and my crafty business, so I wondered if you guys have any questions you want to ask me :)

If you'd like to ask me a question just leave a comment on this post and I'll write up the answers over the next few weeks.

Keeping Busy

I might have finished my Crafting 365 project, but the daily crafting habit is a hard one to break! Here are a few of the things I've been sewing over the past week or so...
... lots of almost-finished things, poppy brooches, little robins and fox brooches. I've also been re-stocking lots of masks and beards and working on a few new things which I'll be revealing soon!

In other news, I am giddy with excitement today as my copy of Little Thing arrived today - all the way from China and complete with a free brooch:
So thrilling! It's interesting to see the small differences in the layout from the pages I was sent, and I'm glad to see all my moustache models are still featured. You can read my interview in English here if you want...

In the meantime...

I'm still stuck without the internet for 99% of my day (sob!) but I just wanted to mention that there's an interview with me over on IndieFixx today, hurrah!

I am rather pining for the pretty colours and fantastic inspiration offered by lovely design blogs like IndieFixx... particularly Poppytalk (and so many of the great blogs linked to on there) and (my current favourite) Print & Pattern - always so much lush stuff to look at, and so much colour! I may have to go out and buy a glossy magazine to tide me over, but it just won't be the same...
