Lucky Pants! Fun Embroidery Pattern

Hello friends!

The latest project in my "oooh, I wonder if any of my old designs would make cute embroidery patterns?" series is this fun rainbow LUCKY PANTS embroidery pattern:

Years ago I used to make and sell silly little felt underpants badges (click here for the free tutorial to make your own!)...

... and I made a colourful bit of lucky pants themed textile art, too! I had that piece very much in mind when designing my lucky pants embroidery pattern.

You'll find the lucky pants embroidery pattern over on my Patreon.

I stitched most of my lucky pants design with backstitch, using three strands from six-stranded embroidery thread (floss). It's possible that I only used two strands for the lettering but I have helpfully forgotten to write this down! (Oops). I also added a single French knot for the dot of the exclamation mark.

The pattern is designed so you can stitch the lines in six rainbow colours, but you could use different shades if you'd prefer. I stitched the lettering in black and the pants themselves with sparkly gold thread. Metallic embroidery thread can be a bit of a faff to stitch with but it's totally worth it, just take your time. For extra sparkle, why not add some sequins?

I stitched the design in a 5 inch embroidery hoop then framed it in a 4 inch hoop so the embroidery goes right up to the edge of the hoop. If you decide to do this, learn from my mistake and make sure you don't leave any knots right at the ends of the lines as they'll bulge against the wood of the hoop and make your finished piece look less neat.

365 / 62 - printing, sewing, and another secret thing

Last night I made another secret thing which I cannot yet show off - it's a small something based on the secret swap item I've just put in the post, so it will have to stay hidden until the swapping is complete! I also printed off a few business cards (I've been out of them for ages, so I really need to restock) and made His & Hers lucky pants badges - destined to be a wedding gift for some friends of my sister...

Crafting 365 / 32 - finishing one thing and starting another

Some small bits and pieces today.

First up, my crafting 365 pic...
... 20 finished pants badges (completed whilst listening to a Hercule Poirot adaptation on BBC7) and lots of cut-out pieces of felt. This is just a small amount of the felt I cut out yesterday. I now have two whole trays of the stuff sitting waiting to be sewn together. Photos soon, hopefully.

Secondly, the lovely grayeyedscorpio featured me on her blog. Hurrah!

Thirdly (and also finally), the awesome Justin & Elise of LazerBeanz sent me the results of their moustache modelling... just the most hilarious photos, I am dead chuffed with them. It was really hard choosing just 2 to put in my listing, but I have opted for these two for the moment (love that book in the last one! genius!)

Crafting 365 / 31 - an assortment of lucky pants

More late-night West Wing last night... I was half-asleep and needed a simple little sewing project to keep my fingers busy, so I looked through my WIP box and found lots of half-sewn lucky pants badges. I managed to get a few of them finished, the rest still need their safety pins adding and their front & back stitched together:
I do adore seeing them altogether like that (that's the lid of my wip box, by the way). So many colours! Lovely stuff.

Crafting 365 - day five - sewing sewing sewing

It is so miserable here! England has somehow skipped two months of the calendar and is nearing the end of OCTOBER. Brr! I was in summer dresses last week, now all my winter woollens are back out from under the bed and I'm drinking tea to warm myself up (instead of normally when I drink tea simply because it is wonderful).

I am exhausted today, feeling generally a bit rubbish, so I am spending the afternoon curled up with my sewing pile. This is what my workspace looks like at the moment, with my little portable moustache factory on the right:
On the left are some in-progress pants badges - part of a custom order but always fun to make, such delicious bright colours! The keen-eyed amongst you may also be able to spot some biscuit badges ready to get sewn together and also the new colours I am trying out for the moustache pins (black and blond).

Right, back to my needle and thread...
