Ran across your site looking for a sweet gift for a friend. Love this little angel...she is perfect! I'm working on my own version right now, and am somewhat of a beginner. What does the bottom of her dress look like on the back? Did you continuously sew from star to star or did you cut thread between each star? Just wondering some of your techniques. I am sewing on muslin, using purple thread instead of blue, and also planning on adding a little monogram and date for my friend. Thanks for posting this! Love your blog.
Hi Virginia - so nice to hear you're sewing this pattern as a gift!
For my stars, I didn't bother cutting the thread each time & just trailed it from star to star.
I think you can do either - it depends on a) how neat you want to be with your stitching (some people don't mind a bit of mess at the back of their work, others prefer everything super neat and tidy) and b) if the trailed threads will be visible through your fabric on the finished piece. In the latter case, I usually opt for backing a pale fabric if necessary with something darker, so not enough light shows through that the trailed threads are visible.
I hope that makes sense! Best of luck with your stitching :)
Hi, I just want to say thanks for the Angel embroidery pattern. I am more of a crocheter and knitter but I am trying this angel. I have a question about the ends as well. Do you knot at the beginning and weave the end in or do you weave the beginning and end cotton in? Hope that makes sense, shows how much of a beginner I am. I have to say I love your work and thank for sharing.
Hi Christina - personally, I knot the thread to start with and then weave the ends in but I think some stitchers weave the threads in at the start too. You could try both and see what works best for you :)
thanks Laura! I was looking for something just like this to make a christmas ornament!
