I know it's a bit wonky, but I'm so proud of this:
A whole granny square, stitched by me. Hurrah!
Whether I can manage a second one unsupervised has yet to be seen, haha.
In the meantime - I need your help! I really want to start following a few crochet-related blogs / crafty blogs with a bit of crochet in the mix, and would love to hear your recommendations for some good blogs to try.

ReplyDeleteWonderful crochet jewellery!
Well done you on your square too!
I've just learned to crochet too and like you I did rows and rows of double crochet. But I also managed a hexagon on Attic 24 and I was sooooo pleased! the instructions are so clear and the photos and ideas gorgeous. You must check it out (like many others have recommended!)
ReplyDeleteWell done on your first square! I learned to crochet making granny squares and I find making them much easier than "line" crochet (you can judge by my lack of basic crochet vocabulary that I am a novice myself :-)
ReplyDeleteYay, go you!! If you feel like making a flower next... there's a free pattern on my blog :-)
ReplyDeleteEsther.
omg you just started crocheting and so quick you made a granny square! congratulations!!! it looks really good :):)
ReplyDeleteGood job with your grannie! When it's sewn together with another it will be perfect!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the 1st granny square - they are addictive :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else - Attic 24 is the place to be! Lucy is very inspirational. And Heather at http://www.littletinbird.co.uk/ is awesome too.
hello, well done on your first granny! I can remember how great that felt..such satisfaction, there will be no stopping you now. I agree Attic 24 is great for crochet, esp as the tutorials are really easy to follow (even I can follow them) and also Coco rose diaries just for pure inspiration and colour Have fun :-)

Don't get me wrong. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always exciting to explore new crafts, but crocheting and knitting seem all the same to me. Of course you can find many patterns to follow and mix many colors; but it's not like the endless possibilities of sewing and felting. Perhaps you could combine your all time classic love with the new one!
I still mess up granny squares! But I love amigurumi...
ReplyDeleteThe blog,
http://www.planetjune.com/blog/
is fantastic for crochet. She's just had a little upheaval and moved halfway across the world, so it's a little spotty right now, but her past posts are brilliant!
futuregirl.com
has some excellent crochet tutorials as well. Have fun!
Yay! Thanks for all the blog suggestions everyone, it's much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the crochet encouragement too. I pulled lots of faces stitching this first square but I think I'm starting to get the hang of it now.
I'm not making anything with the squares at the moment, just using some scrap yarn leftover from other projects to practice.
I definitely want to make a blanket at some point but I need to learn to switch colours, and then there's the tricky decision of what colours to choose... I'm hoping to get some colour inspiration reading these blogs!
Anonymous - don't worry, I'm not giving up sewing! knitting & crochet is just soooo relaxing, great for evenings in from of the tv after a long day :)
Well done! I have tried my hand at making granny squares a few times and have failed miserably! I can make crochet flowers and roses though! :)
ReplyDeleteFuturegirl has a nice blog!
Ooh... crochet roses sound fab! So many fun things to make, so little time!!
ReplyDeleteI very recently learned to crochet, so can totally understand your excitement. I think it's the perfect craft to give you that instant sense of achievement, plus the results are so pretty. My first project was a ripple blanket using the instructions from (you've guessed it) attic 24. You can see my finished blanket here - http://dropstitchblog.blogspot.com/2011/04/ripple-blanket-is-finished.html. I'm very proud of it :)
ReplyDeleteLate to this party, but I thought I'd comment anyway. My list of favorites is really long, so here's a link to my Pinterest board of crochet ideas instead. :)
ReplyDeleteMaitreya - lovely! thanks for the link :)
