Comfort Crafting

I was a bit ill yesterday and have spent most of today recovering on the sofa in my pajamas watching Poirot DVDs and doing some knitting.

As you've probably noticed I spend most of my crafty time sewing but I love a nice simple knitting project to keep my fingers busy when I'm feeling under the weather and stuck watching TV all day. (I've got to be really ill to abandon crafting altogether!).

One year when I had the flu I knitted all these little hats for the Big Knit (my mum made all the matching pompoms)...

... and all the blankets I've knitted over the years have started out as projects to keep me from getting bored during one illness or another.

Do you have a comfort craft you turn to when you're poorly?

  1. I knit when I'm sick too, but it's my "main" craft anyway so it's not that much different from my regular crafting activity. It helped a lot, though, one time when I came down with a terrible flu (including fever and a very painful throat) on the same day I had my two wisdom teeth removed. Whenever I look at the mittens I knit on those few days, I remember the comfort they provided (and the drops of sweat they absorbed :)

  3. hhmm I usually go for cross-stitch as it is good at taking your mind off things or just reading craft magazines does it for me too :-)

  4. Any craft I can do while just sitting and relaxing is good when I feel under the weather. I usually have some knitting or hand sewing on the go so whichever is least complicated I can pick up.

  6. Definitely crocheting blankets, I can do it with very little thought and it keeps me lovely and warm. When I had a bunny she used to come and sit on my lap and snooze under by blankets, luckily she wasn't interested in eating the wool.

  8. I hope you are feeling a bit better now. Knitting is very good. I knit when I'm happy, sad, stressed, ill.....it is so relaxing. Great hats for Innocent and the colours you have chosen for the blanket are very pretty too.
