Spring Primroses

The boyfriend was away yesterday evening so I took over the lounge and spent the evening crafting - what fun!

I tried out lots of ideas that have been buzzing round my head for weeks/months and made a big felty mess, it was wonderful.

At the end of the evening I had lots of works in progress (more about these soon!) and one finished design... primrose hair combs:

I used to sell little primrose brooches a few years ago, and when I rediscovered the pattern pieces I thought a little cluster of primroses would look lovely on a comb.

I'm thrilled with how they turned out, and can definitely see more flower hair combs in my future.

The combs are now for sale (individually) over in my Etsy shop and in my Folksy shop.

Making Buttons

Today I've been making some felt buttons.

(Updated) Some extra info, for those of you interested in making buttons for your own crafts!

The buttons are made with plain cover buttons which snap together, you can press them together by hand but using a tool makes it much easier. I use a
universal cover button tool (pictured above) , you can use it for pressing different sized buttons together, and the packaging also helpfully came with templates drawn on it for the size of felt/fabric you need to cover each size of button.

The wool blend felt I sell is perfect for covering buttons, but remember only to use them for things you won't be washing!
I don't sell button making supplies in my shops but your local haberdashery/sewing-supplies shop will probably stock some.

Here are lots of felt buttons I made a couple of years ago - be warned, making these is quite addictive!

The turquoise buttons I've made today are going to be used to make some felt flower brooches & hairbands, like these:

I love the lilac and turquoise colour combo, but if you fancy something a bit different you can now order custom versions of this design - in any colours you want!

A Celebratory Shopping Spree

Most of the money I've earned from writing Super Cute Felting will be spent on sensible/boring things like paying rent and bills and taxes (I'm doing my accounts this week: ugh!) ... but I wanted to spend it on something special, too.

I always have a long wish list of prints from artists and illustrators I've discovered on Etsy or elsewhere online, so I decided to treat myself to some art:

A fox and a wren from KateFete.

Kate's work is so charming, if you're a bird fan you must check out her lovely brooches.

Seed and Sow from Swallowfield. Just gorgeous.

And three birdie prints from Geninne.
I bought some of Geninne's birds a few years ago, they're on display in our kitchen, I love them and they're always much admired by visitors.

As well as enjoying these prints for their own awesomeness I'll always connect them with that lovely happy "finished book" feeling. I can't wait for them to arrive!

Have you bought any art / discovered any artists on Etsy lately?
